Do you have a brain trust?

Ilise Benun on your online marketing planOne of the most important tools any freelancer or solopreneur can have is a network of people who support you and your business.

That's the only way I've been able to make my business viable for the past 25 years.

So whether you're just starting out or have been at it a while, this is a good time to reflect on who is part of your network and who's missing.

You can think about this as a "board of advisors" as Luke Mysse has talked about at CFC.

Or you can think about it more broadly, as Sara Horowitz, founder of the Freelancers Union (membership is free so be sure to join!), has written about in her new book, "The Freelancers Bible." Here's a short excerpt from a section called, "The 7 Knows":

KNOW Your Brain Trust. "Find the trusted inner circle who can help you as you launch and grow, offering advice and ideas, referring prospects, problem-solving, and cheering you on. It could be fellow freelancers, company buddies, relatives. They should be people you feel you can be totally honest with. Your Brain Trust has your back and you’ve got theirs.

Read the rest of the "knows" here...and check out the book too.

And check out our CFC network that keeps growing on LinkedIn. It's free to join that one too.
